Finding financial aid for overseas travel can be daunting but not impossible. The first step is to get out and look for them. It is important to realize that many grants and scholarships can be applied to study abroad courses. Many awards are not program specific. In fact, the increased financial costs associated with studying abroad can contribute to your student statement.

The largest challenge you will face is to apply for every opportunity you discover. It sounds simple but you won’t win a scholarship if you don’t complete those forms! Besides, it is only difficult to finish the first application and write your first statement. Each following application requires only slight readjustments to your first statement. Just like a resume, you want to tailor each letter to incorporate specific information that will accentuate your best attributes and ambitions for the course. Most people give up on the application process before even beginning; your chances of winning are probably better than you think.

With the help of the UWM Financial Aid Department, I have assembled
a place to begin a search for funding. Included is a list provided by Gayla Jenkins, whom you will most likely encounter once the process underway. She has been
a fantastic source of knowledge. Naturally, don't forget to contact your SARUP
advisor in AUP 225. They will have the most up-to-date scholarship information from the School of Architecture; they usually are awarded at the same time every year. In addition, there are a few links that I explored during my hunt for funding. Keep in mind that many scholarships are offered year after year. Even if the deadline has passed, it will most likely be offered the following year around the same time. It is never too early to begin assembling this information.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Please write especially if you have any financial sources to contribute. Every bit of information helps.

Best wishes!
